Since 1928, BMW was “turned” on the bikes to ensure activity. Since then stamped steel era had arrived, as warned on the chassis of the R-11 and R-16 from 1929.
This torsionally rigid chassis was not the only improvement: first rear suspension fitted to a motorcycle and a complete electrical equipment, horn and speedometer, which until then were considered as extra accessories that the customer had to pay separately. The timing gears were replaced by a chain, much quieter, flexible joints were introduced into the shaft and air filters were taken to the carburetors.
This new BMW, was an example of refinement, luxury and cutting edge technology, pity that was born to a time of economic crisis throughout the world during the period 1929-1932.
