BMW Mº R-5 year 1936 with 500 c.c.;
In the year 1936, BMW released a self practically new model: the R-5 engine with 24 HP at 5800 rpm and double overhead camshaft, chain driven.
With the aerodynamics of the R-5, BMW returned to the tubular frame and sporting spirit, and introduced the telescopic fork with hydraulic damping.
This model had great expectations worldwide and engine resurfaced after the war with the R-51/2.
