Peugeot quadrcycle from 1900: Old restoration. Good general condition. Working.
Peugeot began manufacturing motorcycles in the late nineteenth Century. It was in 1898 when the brand surprised the world with a prototype of motorcycle. It was the evolution of a bike which was added a Dedion&Bouton engine, thus beginning a long history in the world of motorcycle.
The evolution continued with models with more than two wheels; they focused on manufacturing a few tricycles and quadrycicles as this exemplary from 1900 that we are introducing here.
It was a similar concept, but with two wheels in the front and two at the back, with engine of 350 ccm. Without any doubt, it is a spectacular vehicle, where advanced details for that time can be observed.
Other technical curiosities:
– Liquid cooling system: As a curiosity, it is only cooled the cylinder head by thermosyphon system, no radiator.
– A two-speed clutch engine with starting handle. “Longuemare” carburator.
– Magneto ignition system by “France Magneto”.
– Lubrication system: The engine lubrication is made by “lost lubrication”: a syringe must be used to suck lubricant (about 100 ccm) from the oil tank. (This oil tank also contains the cooling water). The lubricant is injected in the crankase. This way, we get a proper work for 25-30 Km. After that, this operation must be repeated twice.
