Vincent Black Shadow claimed that this model was “the fastest and safest motorcycle in the world” and it was not an arrogant affirmation.

It was the top model in the range Vincent until plant closure in 1955.

A comfortable seat and better rear wheel suspension providing greater driving comfort, no doubt the “shadow” was one of the most powerful bikes and faster than you could buy at the time.

This was already demonstrated  by Rollei Free, the September 13, 1948 at Bonneville, he tried to break the American record speed with a Vincent Black Shadow to which he had withdrawn some of its components to lighten the weight. The pilot dressed in a tiny helmet, a bathing suit and sneakers. From a car, next to the bike, became one of the most famous photos of the history of motorcycling, and that day the pilot set the speed record 150.313 miles per hour (241 km / h).
